The Scouts canoeing. Awoke at 8.15am, our last full day of camp. Amazingly, it has stayed dry overnight, but again this meant the midges were out. Breakfast was cereal followed by bacon and eggs - we were cleared up in record time by 9.30am. The original programme was for a water activity in the morning and free time in the afternoon, but we decided to swap this round. The morning was spent exploring the site, in particular the path that went along the water edge from our site to the jetty. A few short showers during the morning, but nothing to worry about. This took us up to lunchtime, which was sandwiches and cake. Cleared up after lunch and headed to the jetty for about 2pm. We had booked a sailing dinghy and a couple of canoes, but were advised against the dinghy as we had no sailing experience and a instructor wouldn't be provided, so went for 4 canoes instead. Sophie was on duty today, and we were on the water until 4.45pm.
The Scouts having a BBQ. Back to the site for a BBQ of sausages and beef burgers and was underway by 5.30pm. After we had finished eating, we started tidying out the store tent and tidying things up in the kitchen. As nobody had been in the shop yet and with it being our last day, we headed up at 6.30pm (when it was due to open) to pay it a visit. By the time we got there it had actually closed (could only have been open less than 10 minutes). However, we were told we could get it opened on request before we went the following day. Back to the site to finish clearing up and pack some things away in the trailer. Unfortunately, it has started raining by now so we weren't able to take any tents down - luckily there were no large tents which would cause a problem to dry out at a later stage. Midges were intolerable again, and even at reception they were bad so headed down do the jetty for a while. Rain came on heavy later on, and thunder had been forecast but had only had a couple of distant rumbles during the day. Early rise in the morning to get everything packed away and hopefully on the road by 12pm.
