Monday 25th August 2003

Awoke at 7.30am to find most of the Scouts already up and about. Despite it being a clear night, it was now cloudy, but the cloud was high. Two of the Leaders went to get some shopping whilst the rest got a breakfast of cereal and French Toast underway. Inspection was on the return of the Leaders, and then we got on with sorting ourselves out for a hike. One group took the short walk up to The Whangie (about 3 miles return) while the more adventurous group picked up the West Highland Way just outside of Drymen and walked to Balmaha taking in Conic Hill, a total distance of about 7 miles. Back on site for 4.45pm for a dinner of pasta and bolognaise. Some advice on how to improve the pitching of the tent was given to the Scouts before the evening's activity of grass sledging. By this time the sun had come out and it was turning into a pleasant evening. Unfortunately, this meant the midges came out, but luckily it was only for a short while. The Scouts then spent some free time playing hide and seek before getting a hot drink and heading to bed shortly after 10pm.
