A really sunny but cold morning when we got up at 7.00am. A central breakfast of cereal and bacon/sausage sandwiches before clearing out the mess
tent and taking down all the tents. Unfortunately there had been a heavy dew so all the tents were damp and there wasn't enough time to dry them
out. The equipment that had been borrowed was collected at 9.45am and then a final litter sweep before leaving the site at 10.15am, which was
roughly when we had hoped to leave. Unfortunately the car following the mini bus missed the turning for the motorway, but was able to catch up
with us by the time we stopped at the Killington Lake services for lunch. We had been making good progress, but then unfortunately joined a 5 mile
queue of traffic on the M6 which took two and a quarter hours to get through (and no visible explanation as to why there was a queue). Continued
to make good progress after this and after a quick stop at the services on the A50, started dropping the Scouts off at their homes soon after 7pm.
By the time all had been dropped off, the equipment put back in the garage and the mini bus returned, it was 9pm when the Leaders finally got
home. The Leaders' opinions were that is was a very successful camp and they were pleased with the behaviour of the Scouts and how they all managed on their first annual camp. The concensus of the Scouts was that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. |
